Country Style Ribs Trivia
While serving up your ribs, you can share this interesting bit of trivia with your guests. Did you know country style ribs aren’t truly ribs? Sometimes there is a bone in the meat, but the bone is from the scapula or shoulder blade, not a rib. They are called ribs because they are similar to that cut of meat in appearance, flavor, and texture. In fact, they usually have a bit more fat on them, making them more flavorful than traditional ribs.
Ingredients:
- 3 lbs TBS country style pork ribs (shoulder/butt ribs)
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- ¼ cup BBQ sauce
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- Line a 13″ x 9″ baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Add the brown sugar, salt, mustard, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to a large resealable plastic bag. Place the ribs into the bag, seal it, and shake vigorously to coat the ribs with the dry ingredients.
- Place the ribs in a baking dish. Space them evenly apart to ensure even baking. Cover the baking dish tightly with foil.
- Bake the ribs in the oven on the middle rack for 2 1/2 hours at 325°F.
- Remove the ribs from the oven and carefully drain the liquid from the baking dish. It may be easiest to remove the ribs temporarily to another plate, drain the baking dish, and then move them back to the baking dish.
- Increase the temperature of the oven to 375°F.
- Use a brush to coat all of the ribs with BBQ sauce. Place the baking dish back into the oven uncovered for 30 minutes at the higher temperature.
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.
