Grilled and Seared Ahi Tuna With Sesame Seed Crust
Ingredients
- Soy sauce, low-sodium, 1/2 cup
- Scallions, 1/4 cup, chopped
- Juice, lemon, 2 tbsp
- Oil, sesame, 1 tsp
- Ginger, grated, 1 tsp
- Tuna steak, 6 ounces, 4
- Sesame seeds, 1/2 cup
- Cornstarch, 1/2 tsp
Directions to Make Seared Ahi Tuna
- Toss the soy sauce, scallions, lemon juice, sesame oil, and ginger into a large resealable bag. Zip the bag and jostle the mix around until everything is nice and evenly blended.
- Add the tuna to the bag, tossing it around a few times so that every facet is coated with your marinade. Press all extra air out of the bag, zip it up, and leave the tuna to marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Preheat your grill to its highest temperature setting.
- Place the seeds on either a plate or a shallow dish. Remove the steaks from the bag, making sure to brush away the scallions from your tuna and setting the rest of the marinade aside. Press every side of each steak against the seeds so that they have a thorough layer of the stuff that sticks to the meat because of the marinade.
- Spray your grill plates with nonstick cooking spray and add your steaks to the grill, making sure to close the cover. Do not press down on the steaks as they cook. Grill for roughly 3 minutes, longer if you want your fish more well-done. Remove the fish from the grill and keep them warm.
- If you are grilling in the open, use a pair of tongs to flip the tuna steaks after 3 minutes of cooking. Give the other side 3 minutes to cook.
- While your steaks are cooking, pour your marinade into a small saucepan and bring the mixture to boiling. Use a whisk to blend your cornstarch into the marinade and cook the mixture for between 3 to 4 minutes, just long enough for your marinade-turned-sauce to thicken up.
- To serve, thinly slice the steaks diagonally. Fan out the pieces and drizzle it with your sauce.
