Grilling chicken is one of life’s greatest pleasures. From crispy skin to tenderly grilled meat, grilling brings out chicken’s subtle and elegant flavors. BBQ chicken is an ideal meal on a hot day. One of the best ways to grill the bird is a technique known as Beer Can Chicken. Beer Can Chicken is an excellent way to get the moist, flavorful chicken of your dreams. Here’s what you need to do.
Get the Bird
The first thing you should do is get your ingredients together and within easy reach. Start with a whole organic chicken from the Butcher Shop. Our standard fresh organic chickens are about four pounds and perfect for beer can chicken. You’ll want to have the bird ready to go so open up the package and lay it down on a clean surface.
Other Ingredients
In addition to the right bird, you’ll want other ingredients for this bbq chicken. Get out two teaspoons of vegetable oil and two tablespoons of salt. A teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper along with your favorite dry spice rub is a must. And of course, the can of beer.
Prep the Chicken
In order to get the best results, you’ll need to prep the bird properly. Get rid of the neck and giblets as they don’t make good eating. You want a dry chicken so rinse it out and dry it carefully with paper towels afterward. Now is the time to season the bird so it has really good flavor. Gently rub the entire bird with the oil. Then salt and pepper each part of the bird. After that, you can rub the dry spice rub across the inside and outside. The goal is to get a bird with intense flavor in every bite.
Open the Beer Can
Now is the time to do a little drinking and a little grilling chicken. Open the can of beer. You want only half a can of beer. Put the can on a solid surface like a cutting board. Take the chicken by the legs and plop on top of the can. The can should fill the chicken’s interior cavity. Carefully lift the entire bird and place in the center of the grill. You want to make sure the bird is properly centered so it does not tip over.
Cook That Meat
Now is the time to sit back and let it cook. You want indirect heat that’s about medium hot. Keep the cover on and grill. Check until it reaches about 165 degrees F in the breast area. Your meat thermometer should also show about 80 degrees F in the bird’s thighs. Clear juices indicate it’s cooked. This takes about an hour and a quarter to complete from start to finish. Once you have the bird, remove it from the grill. Let sit for ten minutes and serve to hungry guests.
