Looking for a fresh idea to spice up your Memorial Day menu? This year, why not break away from the traditional barbecue fare and indulge in something truly unique—a Bratwurst Pizza that combines the best of two worlds: classic bratwurst flavors with the comfort of a homemade pizza?
Imagine a golden crust topped with layers of savory goodness. Start with bratwurst simmered in a flavorful beer bath alongside onions, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. This step infuses the sausage with an irresistible taste, setting the stage for a delicious pizza experience.
Next, picture a premade pizza dough spread generously with tangy Dijon mustard and zesty pizza sauce, creating the perfect base for your toppings. Sprinkle on a blend of gooey mozzarella cheese, followed by slices of grilled bratwurst that boast charred edges and mouthwatering aroma. But we’re not done yet. To balance the richness, add a layer of sauerkraut for that delightful hint of acidity. Top it all off with a generous blanket of sharp cheddar cheese, which melts to perfection in the oven.
As this masterpiece bakes, the flavors meld together, creating a symphony of taste that will leave your guests clamoring for more. Serve it fresh out of the oven, piping hot and bubbling with cheese, for a Memorial Day meal that will be the highlight of your celebration.
Ingredients for Bratwurst Pizza:
- 6 TBS Bratwurst sausages
- 4 (12 ounces) cans of beer
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 12-ounce premade pizza dough
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup premade pizza sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup sauerkraut, drained
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions:
- Prepare the Bratwurst. Combine the beer and the onions in a large pot and bring to a boil. Add bratwurst, pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the pot. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Grill the Bratwurst. Cook the bratwurst on the preheated grill, turning occasionally. You should see char marks on the side and no pink in the sausage–about 5 to 10 minutes. The internal temperature of the sausage should be 160F.
- Remove from the grill and allow to rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425F.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a large baking sheet.
- Brush the Dijon mustard over the pizza dough and then cover it with the pizza sauce.
- Sprinkle one cup of the mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- Slice the bratwurst into 1/4-pieces and cover the pizza. If you have too many brats, refrigerate them for leftovers (your stomach will thank you later).
- Cover the slices with the sauerkraut, remaining mozzarella cheese, and the cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 14 to 17 minutes.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
