The holidays are chaotic enough – the last thing you need is a complicated main dish to worry about. That’s where a bone-in or boneless ham from The Butcher Shop comes in. Our hams are already cooked, so all you have to do with yours is warm it up. If you’d also like to add some extra flavor, a brown sugar maple glaze is a go-to for a reason – it takes just a few minutes to whisk together, and you end up with sweet, sticky, caramelized perfection. Keep your holiday spread simple this year with our recipe for the easiest ham for the holidays.
Recipe for the Easiest Ham for the Holidays
Ingredients:
- 1 TBS ham
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup maple syrup or honey
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, but adds balance)
Directions:
1. Prepare the Ham
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Place the ham cut-side down in a roasting pan. Score the ham all over with 1/2-inch deep cuts.
2. Glaze the Ham
In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, maple syrup, and Dijon mustard (if using). Brush half the glaze over the ham and cover with foil.
3. Warm the Ham
Warm the ham for 12 to 15 minutes per pound. Once the internal temperature reaches 140°F, remove the foil and brush the ham with the remaining glaze. Return the uncovered ham to the oven for 15 minutes to caramelize.
4. Rest
Let the ham sit for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Tips & Variations
- Don’t overcook it: The ham is already cooked – you’re just warming it and glazing it.
- Use the pan juices: For extra moisture and shine, spoon the pan juices over the ham.
- Switch up the glaze: Try orange marmalade, pineapple juice, or bourbon for fun twists.
