Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Steak

Valentine’s Day is all about showing your love in meaningful ways, and what’s more thoughtful than preparing a delicious, restaurant-quality steak dinner for your special someone? With a Sweetheart Steak from The Butcher Shop and a few expert tips, you’ll be well on your way to a romantic, intimate Valentine’s Day dinner for two.

Recipe for Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 TBS Sweetheart Steak
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or another high smoke point oil)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Steak
Season the steak generously with salt and pepper on all sides. Let it sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes. This helps the steak cook evenly and enhances flavor.

2. Heat the Skillet
Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat until it’s very hot (almost smoking). Add the avocado oil and let it heat for about 30 seconds.

3. Sear the Steak
Place the Sweetheart Steak in the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes without moving. Flip and sear the other side for another 2-3 minutes. Both sides should develop a golden-brown crust.

4. Add Butter and Aromatics
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter, smashed garlic, and rosemary or thyme to the skillet. Tilt the pan slightly and use a spoon to baste the steak with the melted butter for 1-2 minutes.

5. Finish Cooking
Finish cooking to desired doneness in the skillet or transfer the skillet to a preheated oven (400°F). Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature:

  • Rare: 120-125°F
  • Medium Rare: 130-135°F
  • Medium: 140-145°F

6. Rest the Steak
Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring each bite is tender and flavorful.

Tips & Variations

  • Sides: Serve with garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed asparagus, or a fresh arugula salad.
  • Wine Pairing: A bold red like Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, or Merlot complements the steak’s rich flavor.
