Crockpot Hearty Elk Stew

Slow cookers are best when you don’t have time or do not want to stand by the stove all the time. Just leave the meat in the Crockpot and forget it for hours. The fact that slow cooking takes ample time does not imply that it is difficult. On the contrary, it is quite easy and tastes very delectable if made in the right manner.

Here is an easy slow cooker recipe of a healthy and delicious Elk stew. Try this one and you are sure to fall in love with it.

Serving Size: 8 – 9

Preparation Time: 30 minutes Approx.

Cooking Time: 7 – 8 hours

Serving Suggestion: Serve with fresh bread

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs elk roast
  • 8 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (also known as Worcester sauce)
  • 4 large onions
  • 12 medium sized carrots
  • 2 parsnips
  • 6 large potatoes
  • Half teaspoon oregano
  • 2 teaspoons sage
  • 2 tablespoon gravy flour (substitute: all purpose flour)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation Method

  1. Cut the elk roast in 1 ½ inch cubes
  2. Cut the potatoes in about 1 inch pieces.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes and chop the onions.
  4. Peel and thinly slice the parsnips.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat.
  6. Put the elk cubes in the pan and cook them till they turn brown in color.
  7. When the elk is turned brown, reduce the heat to medium and add half of the chopped onions in it.
  8. When the onions become translucent, remove the skillet from heat.
  9. Pour the contents of the skillet in a slow cooker.
  10. Add in it the balsamic vinegar, beef broth and the Worcestershire sauce.
  11. Let the elk marinate in the cooker for a few hours.
  12. After marinating, add the olive oil, carrots, potatoes, parsnip, oregano, sage, salt, pepper and paprika.
  13. Let it cook on low heat for 5 hours.
  14. After 5 hours, add the remaining onion in it and let it cook for another hour.
  15. After one hour, melt the butter, mix it with flour and add it in the cooker.
  16. Let it cook for one more hour on high heat.

The delicious Crockpot Hearty Elk Stew is ready to serve.
